CULLEN
FOR ADOPTION in CORNWALL/DEVON

German Shepherd x Bosnian Sheepdog

Cullen is currently in emergency boarding facility in Cornwall as he was in a different part of the UK and we didn't have space here nor foster homes available for him at short notice.

CULLEN -  a name perfect for this stunning dog, meaning 'handsome,' and he certainly lives up to his fitting name.

Size: 60cm approx shoulder height

Sex: male

Age: 2 years approx

Neutered: yes

Vaccinated: yes

Microchipped: yes

Child friendly: y
es, Cullen is super-friendly, and we believe he could thrive in a household with children who understand and respect a dog's boundaries. However, due to his size, strength, and energetic nature, we prefer a home without young children for him. We would consider a home with older teenagers, aged 16 and up, provided they can handle Cullen's exuberance responsibly.

Dog friendly: yes. He lived as a street dog and then in a crowded pen with other dogs in the busy Bark Ark rescue shelter, in Bosnia.

Cat friendly: not tested

House Trained: the boarding kennel informed us that Cullen is super clean and has not messed in his kennel once since he arrived.

Behaviour/Temperament/Unique traits/ Training needs:

Cullen is the epitome of friendliness, a true people-lover whose charm captivates all who meet him!

His joy knows no bounds, especially when playing ball and showering affection on his beloved humans.

During his vet visit, Cullen proved himself a shining star, allowing handling without a hint of negativity. Cullen didn't show much interest in other canine patients in the waiting room.

Yet, as with many dogs, Cullen's behavior may differ when restrained on a lead, requiring patience and consistent training. Starting training in the garden while allowing him ample decompression time will be essential for lead training and subsequent socialisation success. Cullen is not used to being on a lead just yet and will need to gain confidence and trust to prevent him from acting out.

Typical of his breed, Cullen possesses a guarding instinct, necessitating proper training and management. Breed experience is beneficial for understanding and handling these traits.

While barking may be expected, breed experience and dedication will  ensure consistency in teaching boundaries and manners. Knowing the breed emphasizes the importance of consistency and focusing on the handler to manage any guarding tendencies. Fortunately, Cullen is a blank canvas when it comes to training - bright and quick to learn, with incredible potential waiting to be unlocked.

This gorgeous dog will be a super-loyal and devoted companion to the right people.

Cullen will need slow introducing to UK life as we know it, in line with our guidelines for new dogs

Blood tested/Health: Yes. Tested negative for Brucellosis, Leishmans, Heartworm, Lyme Disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia and passed her general pre-travel health check. UK vet check revealed good general health and an ear infection is currently being treated.

Rescue story: Cullen's journey began as a street dog in Bosnia, where he was found sleeping outside a shop before embarking on his path to a brighter future.

Ideal Home:

Cornwall/Devon only please.

Cullen's ideal home would be a spacious haven with a large and secure garden, a perfect space for initial training and outdoor adventures.

A setting outside a busy town, with room for playing fetch, running around, and soaking up the sun, would suit him best.

Ideally, Cullen's new home would not include felines, considering we cannot assess him with cats. However, for dedicated and experienced adopters willing to facilitate a gradual introduction between Cullen and cats without pressure, we may consider such a home.

Given his exuberance and lack of training, Cullen would thrive in a household without young children, but we would be open to considering homes with older, dog-savvy teenagers aged 16 and above.

Cullen's perfect match is a realistic and dedicated home that embraces his training needs and understands and accepts his breed traits.

Application and vetting processes apply. Please get in touch if you're interested in adopting Cullen; we typically respond within 24 hours. A Meet & Greet will be arranged after the application is approved. 🐾❤️
