DARWIN
** RESERVED ** FOR FOSTER/ADOPTION in CORNWALL/DEVON
DARWIN - Golden Retriever
Currently on the Isle of Wight and to be moved to Cornwall as soon as a suitable home/foster home becomes available for this darling boy.
Darwin is looking for FOSTER initially as due to his current location we haven’t met this beautiful boy in person yet. Ideally with intent to adopt if all goes well, as Darwin already had a lot of changes in his young life. The next home would be his 4th and we need to assure that we find him his very own forever.
Size: large - typical Retriever size
Sex: male
Age: 1 year 10 months (March 23)
Neutered: yes
Vaccinated: yes (details to be confirmed)
Microchipped: yes
Child friendly: would be fine if they are older teenagers who are dog savvy
Dog friendly: Darwin needs more confidence building around fellow canines as his behaviour with other dogs is currently a bit of a ‘mixed bag’. Hence we would favour a home where he can be an only dog while being introduced to other dogs gradually in a positive and controlled way. Behaviourist/Trainer help will be available FREE OF CHARGE where needed.
Cat friendly: Darwin’s current owners have suggested a cat free home, because he does chase.
Behaviour/Temperament/Unique traits/ Training needs:
Darwin is essentially a really sweet dog who needs to learn to trust and gain confidence. A typical friendly Retriever in most ways. Great in the home, happily bouncy and cuddly. Can be left for a few hours and is just a happy soul. Loves the sea and is very playful. Does not destroy anything apart from his toys. He knows some basic commands but his recall needs further improving. Whenever needed there will be dedicated behaviour advice and coaching available totally FREE OF CHARGE throughout from our team canine coach who is fantastic.
House trained: yes.
Blood tested/Health: Darwin seems in fine health
Rescue story: Darwin’s first home was most likely the home where he was bred, the second had a young baby and found a young bouncy dog too much to handle which meant that they sadly didn't have the time to socialize him enough and the third home who are two really lovely ladies are feeling out of their depth with his intermittent reactions to some dogs which needs working with to help Darwin become more confident and balanced around his own kind. He is ok with some dogs but reacts to others.
Ideal Home:
We would initially treat Darwin as we would any foster dog and the foster home would need to give us an assessment as well as carry out all the usual vet visits for which we would cover the costs. If the foster would be with intent to adopt we would not promote Darwin for adoption until a final decision is made.
This lovely boy is looking for someone who is experienced, patient, confident, as well as realistic, open to expanding their knowledge if needed and prepared to train and socialize Darwin where required. His new home needs to be active, settled and able to give Darwin the time and attention he needs. Darwin would love to live rural/semi rural or coastal and a an adequate safe garden would be essential for this boy.
If you feel that you are the perfect home for Darwin, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We would love to hear from you ♥
Vetting process applies. Meet & Greet will gladly be arranged after the application was approved.
