19.3.2017 - UPDATE
We have moved Gruia into home foster with our friend Dragos in Bucharest. It's an amazing chance for our boy to get a really good assessment for home life. Gruia is being socialized with cats, kids and adults and other dogs too. And he is doing amazing! Gruia will make a wonderful companion to someone and will adjust easily to home life.
This amazing boy is one of those dogs who comes along every once in a while and reminds us all of what bravery and forgiveness really means. Despite his abandonment, despite his pain, despite being hungry and alone, Gruia’s huge, forgiving heart still loves, still trusts and shines out from every part of him. His smile tells us everything we need to know about this happy, bright soul.
Gruia was found by our friend Marllen. This kind lady often feeds the street dogs she meets on her way to work and Gruia was one of them. She discovered that he was living in a field by an industrial estate, all alone and without any way of being able to feed himself. So she took him food and water when she could and showed him probably the first human kindness he had known in a very long time. That was when she noticed that his front paw was broken and badly wounded and so she caught him and contacted our friend and rescue angel Lidia Zahiu at Onesti and asked her for help. With friends Marina and Susanne together, they all found a temporary foster place for him with our wonderful Ramona Apostol at Pets and Friends. Supported and surrounded by people who showed him love, compassion and kindness Gruia’s new life began.
First thing was to find out how badly damaged Gruia’s paw was. He was taken to the vet who examined and x-rayed the whole leg and gave anti-biotics for his paw which was swollen and deeply infected. Once the swelling had subsided, further tests were done to rule out anything more serious than a nasty long term untreated infection. The decision was made to remove the whole leg to give Gruia, just two years old and so full of life, every chance to regain full health, to prevent the infection from spreading further and to give him a future without fear and pain. The surgery was carried out and was successful. So much relief for all his friends who could concentrate on helping this beautiful, forgiving soul recover and heal and move forward, in every sense of the word. .
Already Gruia has healed well and he has adjusted amazingly quickly to standing and walking with three legs. He is without pain, he is loved and his gratitude and happiness shows so much in his kind, smiling face. Ramona tells us that he is a bright, lovely boy. That despite everything he has endured he has been so brave and strong. Gruia has made friends with his fellow doggies at Pets and Friends and is friendly with male or female dogs alike. Gruia is currently living in home foster and shares his foster home with 3 male and female dogs, cats and kids. He is great with children and we would be happy to see him re-homed with a family who have children over 5 years old. He will need some basic training and lead work but he is so bright we feel he will learn very quickly. Gruia may benefit from an orthosis (a stabilising device to help him cope with the extra weight on his front leg), depending on the vet’s opinion. Some funds have been set aside for this, thanks to our dear friend & volunteer Susanne, should this be required.
Gruia is now neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped and his passport will be issued so he can travel to his new life with his very own family. Could it be to you?
Gruia’s story is one of a kind, young dog having to endure loneliness, constant pain and abandonment and yet still being willing to trust humans. He is a bright, brave, happy presence in the lives of everyone who has taken part in saving him, in taking him out of that lonely place and letting him become the dog he truly is. This boy really shines his light and will be an absolute joy to have in your family. Could you take him into your heart and into your home? Could you give him the security and warmth and kindness this dear boy so richly deserves. Your reward would be...well, we will invite you to take a look into Gruia’s eyes and at his bright happy smile and let him tell you himself. It’s all right there.
If you are interested in giving this beautiful boy his forever home then we would be delighted to hear from you. Please don't hesitate to contact us here on the page and we will get right back to you.
Each one of us at the Paws2Freedom team thanks every one of you for taking the time to visit us and for reading Gruia's story.
