WE DON'T HAVE FOSTER HOMES FREE AND CAN'T HELP UNLESS WE RECRUIT SOMEONE NEW. CAN YOU HELP? 

The information we have on Marvel is in his album and based on what we know from the kind lady who is keeping Marvel for now. You can read it when you click on the first photo of Marvel. 

In a nutshell - Marvel is a lovely dog. Needs to shed some pounds, needs neutering and shows severe food aggression with other dogs (he fights them for their food), but not with people. Hence an only dog household would be safest as joint food or treats are an absolute no-no. The lady who has Marvel at the moment has tried it and one of her dogs ended up with puncture wounds this morning. It's an issue that can be worked with and should mellow over time as general control and trust are achieved. We will offer FREE professional help with this to any fosterer or adopter. But for now that's where Marvel is at and why he nearly lost his life and could still do as the kind soul who offered him sanctuary can only keep him for  a short while and it's coming to an end soon.

The following preliminary profile is based on information we have received and we have not met Marvel in person.

No young children as we have not assessed Marvel yet. Secure garden and time are essential and willingness to learn and work with our team canine coach. Only dog home ideal. Not tested with other animals.

Size: large - 36 kilos

Sex: male

Age: 4 years 

Neutered: No - needs to be done once in foster. P2F covers the costs. 

Vaccinated: Not up to date and needs to be done. 

Microchipped: yes

Child friendly: has lived with 3 children, but has food guarding issues and is big and clumsy, hence not recommended to live with young kids. As we don’t know Marvel we are looking for a home without young children. Older teenager who are dog experienced will be fine.

Dog friendly:  In general not too bad and seems ok when off lead. Was attacked by another dog and is now showing some signs of aggression towards them, mainly when on lead. Has bitten resident dog on the head, but nothing major and it didn’t require any treatment. Has bitten resident dog where he currently is - trigger was FOOD. Marvel is able to open doors and the door wasn't shut properly so this happened a few days ago which makes it even more difficult for Marvel to stay where he is now.

Cat friendly: largely unknown as never lived with a cat in his previous home. Where he is now they have a cat and Marvel tried to play-chase it. It would be safer to find him a cat free home.

House Trained: yes

Behaviour/Temperament/Unique traits/ Training needs:

Needs socializing. We will help with professional guidance free of charge.

Very loving and energetic loves a cuddle and a run. Needs entertainment and time!

Has shown food guarding in last home. Seems fine with food when it is given away from other dogs .

Behaviour challenges:
Some aggression shown towards other dogs. Started a year ago and got worse as it was not handled in a suitable way. Marvel was confined to a cage when naughty which made him more frustrated and go for previous family when they tried to shut the cage.

Toy/Treat orientated: Does like food and treats – a lot!

Crate trained: doesn't like crates as it was used as punishment in his previous home.

Can be left on his/her own/with or without other dogs/how long for: Without other dogs but previously left all day.

Likes/Dislikes: Like belly rubs and cuddles. Disliked being shouted at, acts scared.

When Marvel is new to your home we would ask you to follow our guidelines for new dogs. Hence a good size garden will be essential so that he has got somewhere to stretch his legs in during the initial days. 

Blood tested/Health: Health checked and no known conditions.

​Rescue story: UK born and bred. Breeder unknown. Previous home purchased Marvel from his second home and he was fine behaved for a couple of years, attacked by a dog and then was more wary of other animals. Marvel has seen a few puppies come and go in the home which he didn't enjoy. Marvel lived in a small house with 5 family members 3 of which where young children and was often left in a crate too small for long periods of time. Marvel would go straight for bins if they were easy to access and would be very guarding of that food, once turned and grabbed hold of a trouser leg when told off. After this when told off he didn't want to let anyone into his space (the kitchen) would show his teeth and growl at the family. Family member who took Marvel in hasn't seen these behaviours but not to say it won't happen. She feels that he needs time, correct training and more important love attention and exercise! He will do anything for a treat!

Ideal Home: 

Cornwall/Devon only please.

Marvel is looking for a foster home with an adequate safely enclosed garden space. Foster with intent to adopt at a later stage will be fine too. His foster home needs to be realistic and experienced with dogs. 

​

No young children. Older teenagers who are dog savvy and won't overwhelm or stress him will be fine.

 

Marvel needs a very stable and calm environment where he can be assessed and socialized from step by step. Our very experienced team canine coach will gladly offer his help and guidance with any issues that may arise. This is free of charge for our adopters/fosterers. 

He will need to be neutered asap and our vet in Launceston would have to be used or fosterer would have to support 10% of the costs please.
