OREO - Pulin Cross (balkan collie/shepherd)

Size: 60 cm approx shoulder height
Sex:  male
Age: 2-3 years approx
Neutered:  yes
Vaccinated:  yes
Microchipped:  yes
Child friendly: yes, but older dog savvy children preferred who know and respect a dog's boundaries
Dog friendly: yes
Cat friendly: yes, there were cats in the yard where Oreo came from. Of course the relationship between cats and dogs is also dependent on the resident cat. Oreo is also not reactive to livestock.
Temperament/Unique traits: Very friendly, social and affectionate. Loves to hug and cuddle. Devoted to people.
Behaviour/Training needs: Oreo wants to please and learn. While in foster he will start basic training assessment.
House trained:  yes.
Blood tested: Tested negative for brucelliosis canis, leishmans, heartworm, lyme disease, anaplasmosis and ehrlichia before travel. Passed his UK vet check. He still has some bare patches from where he was on a chain, but this is healing beautifully already.

Rescue story: Oreo was rescued from a dog hoarder who took him from the streets of Moderica in Bosnia and Oreo lived in pretty neglected conditions. A young woman called Andrea saved him and alerted Bojan from the Bark Ark rescue shelter who took Oreo under their wings.

Ideal Home: Oreo would be looking for a rural/semi rural home with adequate space, a secure garden and most of all someone who is active, dog experienced, loves dog training and can spend lots of time with him.

ON HOME TRIAL

PIXIE - Mixed Breed

Size: 30 cm approx shoulder height
Sex:  female
Age: 1 year approx (August 22)
Neutered:  yes
Vaccinated:  yes
Microchipped:  yes
Child friendly: yes, but as we didn't have the chance to assess the dog with children ourselves, we only accept older children who know and respect a dog's boundaries.  During time in foster met small children during a walk. Quite anxious about the noise they were making.
Dog friendly: yes, but very cautious. No aggression. Interested when she sees them approaching and then sits quietly. Will interact if the dog comes to sniff but does not initiate contact. Will growl/gruff at them after they have passed. Can be reassured and growls/gruff cease.
Cat friendly: not tested
Temperament/Unique traits: friendly little girl who grew up in the Bark Ark sub shelter where she was cared for by Rada and spent 2 weeks in UK foster before home trial with her adopter. Once she knows you extremely cuddly. Likes contact. Follows you around wherever you go.
Behaviour/Training needs: Just starting to know her name, good girl and treat. Initial progress with sitting for a treat is good. Recall for treat is good as she has observed this behaviour with the other dogs. Good traveller in a car (crate restrained) Fast eater- has a slowdown bowl and needs to be separated as she pinched everyone else’s food. Very confident in the house, inquisitive and has puppy traits of chewing. Is distracted easily with a bone to chew on. Does not feel comfortable meeting people. Needs to be kept away from human meal times as does try to get to the food. Accepts the separation and is learning to not express this behaviour. Feels a part of the pack and does not like to be away from them. Screams with distress when left behind. Has a high pitched squeal when excited and playing- sounds like she is being hurt but it’s just her way of vocalising how much fun she is having. Does not bark excessively and will stop when reassured the danger isn’t there.(people walking past the house)
House trained:  mostly
Blood tested: tested negative for brucelliosis canis, leishmans, heartworm, lyme disease, anaplasmosis and ehrlichia before travel and passed her UK vet check

Rescue story: Pixie was found as an abandoned street pup who would not have survived on her own. Bojan from Bark Ark gave Pixie the chance to live and have a happy future ahead of her.

MINNIE - Mixed Breed

Size: 30 cm approx shoulder height
Sex:  female
Age: 1 year approx (August 22)
Neutered:  yes
Vaccinated:  yes
Microchipped:  yes
Child friendly: yes, but as we didn't have the chance to assess the dog with children ourselves, we only accept older children who know and respect a dog's boundaries
Dog friendly: yes
Cat friendly: not tested
Temperament/Unique traits: friendly and playful little girl. Really she is just a perfect puppy, still a blank canvas, the difference in a week has been amazing. I’ve been calling her Kit and she knows that’s her name now. I feed her Chappie twice a day, as expected she does get excited over food but   I do manage to feed the three in the same room. She will pinch the others food if she has chance. She has a basic slow feeder bowl, the more difficult one she got a little teasy with and would pick it up 😂
She loves chews and treats so that’ll make training easier, I’ve only started sit and down, just adapting to the house and what’s expected has been a lot to learn. She loves to sleep on the armchair.
I would recommend that she has a crate, metal not fabric! She has been keen to stick by me and has broken through barriers and to be able to leave her safely in her crate has helped, kit sees it as her safe space she happily goes in it. She will cry sometimes when first left but does settle. I’m hoping to get out of the house more this week which will be good for building up leaving her for a little.
We had visitors yesterday, she did her big woo woo woos a lot as she was scared which surprised me but I suppose it’s just been us mostly. She was very good with visiting child, slightly wary because they we’re excitable.
So my dogs pretty much ignore her and obviously it’s been a strange week for them, there was a slight tussle with each one over the armchair but she’s been very good for getting along with them. At times they’re all sleeping together on the bed. She’d love to have a doggy friend.
Toilet training is going great really pleased with her, I’ve been putting her out plenty and she will start sniffing the ground when she’s looking to wee. Clean through the nights now.
She plays with the soft toys a little but cow ears have been her favourite thing form the start, now she’s started hiding them round the garden to save for later. She does like to dig.
She’s good to bath and brush.
She’s a great little dog
Behaviour/Training needs: Has adapted to different living conditions very well. Toilet training is coming on great, just not quite going through the night. Very food orientated, loves cow ear chews! Happy in her crate, to be bathed and brushed. A really dear little dog.
House trained:  mostly
Blood tested: tested negative for brucelliosis canis, leishmans, heartworm, lyme disease, anaplasmosis and ehrlichia before travel

Rescue story: Kit (Minnie) was found as a very young abandoned street pup with zero chance of survival on her own. Bojan from Bark Ark gave Minnie the chance she needed. She made it through and is now well cared for by Rada at the Bark Ark sub shelter.

RESERVED PENDING HOME CHECK

GEORGE - Mixed Breed

Size: 30 cm approx shoulder height
Sex:  male
Age: 12 years approx (August 22) ... we are not convinced that George isn't in fact younger, about 10 approx. Will ask vet's opinion on the 28th.
Neutered:  yes
Vaccinated:  yes
Microchipped:  yes
Child friendly: yes, but as he gets easily overwhelmed and startled, plus George is an oldie he would prefer a quiet retirement home without children
Dog friendly: yes
Cat friendly: not tested, but most likely yes as there were cats in the yard where he lived, he is also not reactive to sheep when walked past them.
Temperament/Unique traits: calm and quiet little boy, nervous at first, but lovely once he gets to know you. He is more jumpy/startled and fearful rather than reactive when it comes to things that he doesn't know. Adopters will need to give him the reassurance that things are ok. We think that George did not have many experiences in his life that we would consider every day things. Which includes experiencing the outside world. He would be most at home in a quiet life without many expectations on him.
Behaviour/Training needs: is getting used to house hold noises like washing machines in his current foster home. Would benefit from basic training and is only now learning his name.
House trained:  yes
Blood tested: tested negative for brucelliosis canis, leishmans, heartworm, lyme disease, anaplasmosis and ehrlichia before travel and will have UK vet check on the 28th Sept.

Rescue story: George belonged to a former university professor who sadly passed away. She used to take dogs off the street/fields and took them into her yard. The dogs were kept on a chain with a dog house for shelter as is still the widely accepted way in Bosnia. Bojan from Bark Ark gave George the chance, but a little oldie like him does not do that well in a busy shelter environment so we are hoping that someone will give this darling boy the chance he so deserves at his age. The complete history of his life is not known to us.
